William “Bill” R. Wolsieffer, 84, of Lafayette, IN, died Monday, February 13, 2012, at IU Health Arnett Hospital. He was born September 9, 1927, in Lafayette to the late William and Emma Norton Wolsieffer. Bill graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School and Purdue University. He served in the United States Navy from March 13, 1945 to July 15, 1946. On June 17, 1951, he married Patricia A. Roberts in Lafayette and she preceded him in death on July 18, 1999. Bill was a teacher and coach at Wabash Township School for 2 years and was interim basketball coach at Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1964-1965. He was director of the Guidance Department at Sunnyside Junior High School and coached football and basketball retiring on June 10, 1987, after 31 years.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, retired teachers association and American Legion Post #11. He enjoyed watching college basketball and attended regularly Purdue basketball and football games. Surviving are his children, Sara A. Sanders husband Mark, Lafayette, James S. Wolsieffer, Schaumburg, IL, grandchildren, John Sanders wife Jennifer Edmondson Sanders, Audra Sanders, Jessica Sima husband Chris and Jay Wolsieffer, and great-grandchildren Ethan and Evan Pastore. Also surviving are a brother Harold “Pete” Wolsieffer wife Wilma, Indianapolis, a sister Mary Ann Hilt husband Kenny, Lafayette, and sister-in-law Patricia Wolsieffer of CA. Preceded in death by sister Frances Carr, brother Howard “Jake” Wolsieffer and stepmother Kate Wolsieffer.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to a 2:00 PM funeral service Friday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Rev Clayton Kendall officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Those wishing may contribute to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
