I know I am late leaving a written condolence, but I cannot let Dr. Pak's passing go without comment. He hired me straight out of my undergrad studies, and I stayed in his lab in one capacity or another for 20 years -- mostly as a Research Assistant. In addition to his contributions to science, Dr. Pak should be remembered as a boss who really tried to foster a friendly work environment among the members of our lab group, collectively known as the "Pak rats." Tea times on Fridays at the lab, soirees at their house hosted by Marion, holiday gatherings -- we had it all.

Rest in peace, dear Dr. Pak. Thank you for the lives you touched, and the indelible mark you've left on me and your other students.

Dear Bill and Dotty, I was a close colleague of your Dad's and remember him fondly. He was not only an excellent mentor but he also looked after the well-being of all those around him. You will hear a lot about his contributions to Neuroscience from others and I'd like to add that his contributions in the area of understanding how genes affect how our nervous systems 'work' are widely appreciated. I also worked with your mother Marion and want you to know that she was a contributor as well, making careful observations about mouse behavior. She mastered the science of histology of the brain and succeeded in isolating a very useful varieagated color mouse that turned out to have a 'jumping gene.' Both of your parents will be missed and I want you to know that my life was better as a result of my association with them. May their spirit of observation, discovery and caring for others live on in your own families. Warmest regards and my sincere condolences, Larry
