William J. Oberle, 92, of Lafayette, died at 1:30 pm Monday, April 7, 2014 in his residence. He was born March 10, 1922, in Lafayette, to the late Emil and Mary Brady Oberle. He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1940. William worked for the Ross Gyr/TRW for 42 years as an assembler, and retired in 1984. On May 10, 1957 he married Dorothy Louise Peterson, she passed away in 2001. William was a member of St Lawrence Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Moose lodge 1529 for over fifty years. William was past Governor of the Moose, Indiana Moose of the year and received the Pilgrim Degree. Surviving are daughters, Barbara Garrison of Rossville, Dorothy Cox of Jonesborough,TN and Jane Hackerd (Robert) of Lafayette, grandchildren, Frank, Steve, and Billy Garrison, Mary Ivy, Dan, David and Lyle Keith Parker, Greg and Darin Cox along with several great and great great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of the funeral mass at 11:00 am Monday, April 14, 2014 at St Lawrence Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Gartland officiating. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia VanHook, two granddaughters, Paige Alyse Parker and Lisa Garrison, eight brothers and sisters, Marie, John, Vincent, Robert, Charlie, Richard, Leroy and Elizabeth. Memorial contribution can be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
