William H. Carter, 93, formerly of Brookston, died Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the home of his son in Elberfeld, IN. He was born November 30, 1922, in Circleville, IN, to the late and Harley and Clara Carter. Will graduated from Brookston High School in 1940 and served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. His marriage was to Edres Hendryx and she preceeded him in death. Will farmed in the Brookston area and was also a rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Federated Church of Brookston, the Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post 251 and had formerly served on the White County Draft Board. Surviving is his son Gregory S. Carter (Vickie) of Elberfeld, grandchildren Leslie Rohrer, Eric Carter,
Andi Flowers, Ryan Gilbert, Jay Gilbert, Alli Flowers, Tricia Roller, Chelsi Moore and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Mary Lou Haderly of Lafayette, a brother Richard Carter (Helen) of Monticello, daughter-in-Law Peg Carter Hague of Brookston and a son-in-law Jim Gilbert in Lafayette. Will was preceded in death by a son Herbert Carter, a daughter Lana Gilbert, brothers Tom and Charles Carter and sister Ruth Flack. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 am on Wednesday at the Federated Church in Brookston, Pastor Leland McReynolds officiating.
