William “Bill” Fredrick Wood, 81, of Lafayette, passed away March 11, 2024, at his residence with his girls by his side.
He was born March 14, 1942, in Phillips, WI to the late Wilfred and Florence (Johnson) Wood. He was a 1960 graduate of Phillips High School in Phillips, WI and enlisted in the United States Air Force in February 1963, serving honorably until his discharge in August 1967. Three months after enlisting Bill married Sharon Berken on May 4, 1963, in Appleton, WI.
Following his discharge from the Air Force, Bill worked at Air Wisconsin Airlines for 37 years. In his retirement, he held various part-time positions, including working at the Wiley Food Court at Purdue. He always wanted to put a smile on the students’ faces coming in for breakfast.
Bill enjoyed polka music and was a Green Bay Packer fan. He also enjoyed being the “Pool Boy” for their retirement pool. Above all, Bill loved spending time with his family, he gave the best hugs and was loved by so many.
He is survived by his 3 children, Lori (Jim) Bollock of Lafayette, Tammy Wood of Edwardsville, IL, and Cari McCann of Lafayette; 6 grandchildren, Patrick (Sarah) McCann, Emily (Tyler) Richter, Brandon McCann, Casey Bollock, Holly Bollock, and Morgan Mantei; 3 great-grandchildren, Lillian and Jack Richter and Garrett McCann; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife, Sharon Wood, he was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Florence Wood; his 2 sisters and their husbands, Elaine (Rudolph) Revak and Eunice (Howard) Murphy; and a brother, Charles Wood.
No services will be held at this time.
