Wilbur C. Edwards

Wilbur C. Edwards, 83, of Lafayette, died at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, at his residence.
He was born on Jan. 2, 1927, in Winamac, and was the son of the late Ross and Effie Perigo Edwards.
He served in theArmy Air Corps in World War II.
On April 25, 1971 he married Phyllis Jean Gordon in Lafayette, and she died Nov. 24, 1998.
Mr. Edwards was a serviceman for GTE for 27 years and retired in 1978. After retiring from GTE he owned and operated Wilb&s Place. He enjoyed playing cards, coin collecting, watching classic movies, going out for dinner and having coffee at the Local Bar every morning.
Surviving is a brother, Lawrence Edwards (wife: Helen) of Lafayette.
Also surviving are several nieces and newphews. Preceded in death by 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the 2 p.m. service Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Entombment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Those wishing may contribute to the charity of choice.

Wilbur was a great man. You may not know me but I am a bartender at the local. While working I was also going to school to better myself. Everytime he would come in he would ask me about my exam I have to take to get cetified. I would tell him I ain&t taking it yet, then with the semester ending he started bringing it back up and he told me he had faith in me that I will passed my state exam. So now I make the appointment for the Exam with the faith he instilled in me.
