Wayne L. Ewbank, 79, of West Lafayette, passed away Monday, April 27, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born July 12, 1946, in South Bend to the late Leland M. and Evelyn J. (Micinski) Ewbank. He was a 1964 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in South Bend and continued his education graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University in 1969. On Sep 2, 1967, he married the love of his life, Ruth I. Vuskalns in West Lafayette.
After his discharge, he worked at Duncan / Landis & Gyr as well as creating his own business, Accuturn. Wayne worked as the Manufacturing Lab Manager at Purdue University for 27 years until his retirement. He was also a United States Army Veteran and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Wayne and Ruth had a passion for traveling. As such, they have visited all seven continents and all 50 states, especially enjoying time spent at Crater Lake, Glacier National Park, and Lake MacDonald. The couple has visited Alaska several times beginning on their 25th Anniversary. Also, for their 25th Anniversary, Ruth bought him a 1966 GTO convertible which he enjoyed along with his other “Big Boy Toys” such as his Bobcat, tractors, and backhoe. Above all, Wayne cherished time spent with his family.
Along with his wife Ruth, he is survived by his two children, Michael Ewbank and Kristi Kauffman; three grandchildren, Jeremy Ewbank, Leland Kauffman, and Ruth Kauffman; six siblings, Rodger (Elaine) Ewbank, Maureen Knipper, Anne (Kevin) Downey, Lucia (Charles) Anderson, Steve (Julie) Ewbank, and Dennis Ewbank; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Evelyn and his godfather, Harry “Perk” Miciniski.
Memorial contributions in Wayne’s name may be given to the National Park Foundation, 1500 K Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, D.C. 20005 or online at www.give.nationalparks.org or you may give to the charity of the donor’s choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 13, 2026, from 3:30 to 6:30 pm at Gathering Acres Event Center / 5074 E 550 S, Lafayette, IN 47909.

Ruth and family, I’m so very sorry to hear of Wayne‘s death. He was one of the brightest characters at Our Saviour Lutheran Church. Always spoke to me with such joy and kindness. What a great sense of humor. You and Wayne did so much for OSLC. Thank you for being great Christian Friends and stewards.

Sorry to hear about Wayne's passing. I enjoyed working with him at Purdue. He was always very helpful to me. I loved hearing about his travels. Prayers for his family. Rest in peace

I went to Our Savior Lutheran Church with Wayne for many years In 2018 we went to Israel for 10 days and had a wonderful time. He was a very good man!

My heart goes out to Ruth and the whole Family at this time of both Sorrow and Victory. I met Wayne for the first time in 1978 when he hired a young engineer at Duncan/Landis & Gyr. For 48 years, we've been co-workers, neighbors, confidants, but most of all, Best Friends anyone could ask to have. Wayne was the type of friend that you could talk to about ANYTHING, and who could come up with the best words of wisdom I'd ever heard! I know my Friend is in a better place, but I also know, I'll never EVER forget him or his wonderful Family. Rest in Pease my Friend! Love You!
