Wayne E. Schreiber, 95, of Lafayette, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at his home. He was born September 15, 1926, in Studley, KS, to the late Wallace and Mary (Bickel) Schreiber. Wayne graduated from Manhattan Bible College, Manhattan, Kansas, receiving his high school diploma in 1947 and his bachelor’s degree in 1950. He was a minister with the Christian Church for many years, serving churches in MO, KS, IL, SD, CO and IN.
He married Stella Lee August 15, 1946, with whom he had 2 children. She preceded him in death after 24 years of marriage. Wayne worked as a Time Study Technician and Industrial Analyst for Bethlehem Steel from 1967-1983. On June 25, 1971, he married Peggy Brumfield in Hammond, IN and she survives. They enjoyed 50 years together, and he adopted her 3 children.
He was a member of Crossroads Christian Church where he taught discipleship classes. He held various leadership positions at South Haven Christian Church, IN and First Christian Church of Seminole, FL. Wayne enjoyed family, carpentry, horses, golf, camping, traveling, puzzles and word searches.
Surviving along with his wife are his children Wilford (Lea) Schreiber of Sarasota, FL, Ellen Lee of Iowa City, IA, Karen (Michael) Osborn of Blairsville, GA, Cheryl (Ronald) Fabec of Roswell, NM, Nancy (Scott) Thatcher of West Lafayette, IN, 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Ardith (Frank) Endres of Garden Grove, CA. Wayne was preceded in death by his granddaughter Amber Leigh Osborn and sister Elva Birchett.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 22 at Crossroads Christian Church, West Lafayette, IN. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Hanging Rock Christian Camp, PO Box 218, West Lebanon, IN, 47991.
