Walter “Gene” E. Brady, 96, of Lafayette, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at St. Anthony Health Care in Lafayette.
He was born June 16, 1930, in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late Kenneth “Jack” L. and Florence A. (Barford) Brady. Gene graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On January 23, 1955, he married Kay DeHahn in Lafayette, and she survives. Gene worked for Egyptian Lacquer for 44 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement, he and Kay moved to Naples, Florida, before returning to Lafayette in 2022.
He had been a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Elks. Gene enjoyed fishing, boating, golf, and bocce ball.
Surviving along with his wife, Kay, are his children, Kim B. (Kevin) Gibson of Lafayette and Jeffrey A. (Deb) Brady of Monticello; grandchildren, Courtney (Toby) Steckler, Megan (Frank) Hatke, Kirby Gibson, and Brooke Brady; and great-grandchildren, Hanna, Alex, and Nathan Steckler, Noah (Madison) Hatke, and Carson Hatke.
Gene was preceded in death by his siblings, Edward B. Kessener, John “Jack” K. Brady, Robert B. Brady, William G. Brady, Richard “Dick” J. Brady, and Mary Roach; half-brothers, Kenneth Brady and Tyra Brady; and stepbrothers, Leroy and Jack Arnold. A private Mass will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette. Interment will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Lafayette, Indiana.
