Virginia M. Russell, 92 passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 in West Lafayette, IN.

Virginia was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 21, 1930 to the late James J. Muller Sr. and Mary F. (nee Drudy) Muller. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. On August 4, 1951, Virginia married James F. Russell Sr. in Bloomfield, NJ. They were married for 57 years, until Jim’s death in 2008.

Virginia and Jim lived in many places in their marriage, but their favorite place was Hilton Head Island, SC. It was their chosen place to retire, and they had many happy times there.

Virginia’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her three children: Nancy (Gary) Hawthorne, James F. Russell, Jr., and Virginia Brinson. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Mark (Jessica) Brinson, Samantha (Adam) Fridlund, and Bryan (Kelly) Brinson, along with seven great grandchildren: Kate, Hayden, and Carter Brinson; Nora and James Fridlund, and Everett and Harper Brinson. The “greats” always called Virginia “GG”. The rest of the family followed suit. Virginia is also survived by her sister, Rita Fischer; sister-in-law, Susan Muller; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Muller and James Muller Jr.; and her sister, Mary Rutledge.

Mrs. Russell was a life-long Catholic. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 17, 2023 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1916 Meharry St. Lafayette, IN 47904 with Fr. Andrew Dudzinski officiating.

She will be inurned next to her husband at the St. Francis by the Sea Columbarium in Hilton Head, SC at a later date.
