Victor Bruce Junius, Bruce, passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on July 18, 1936, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to the late Victor Francis and Hazel Waldorf Junius.
Growing up in Youngstown, OH he attended The Rayen School where his love for baseball, basketball, music, and theatre began. His college years took him to the University of Notre Dame where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration. At Notre Dame, he enjoyed being in the theatre, where he made many lifelong friends. After graduating in the ROTC program, Bruce served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant.
Bruce’s work ethic began at an early age. During boyhood years he worked for his father’s business, Nichol’s Five and Dime. His college summers were spent in the mills of Youngstown Steel. Following his time in the Army, Bruce began an extensive career in sales and marketing, starting with Proctor and Gamble.
Bruce Junius and Mary Ann Bricher began their wonderful life’s journey together in Chautauqua, New York and were married in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1965. Alcoa took them to Buffalo, Syracuse, and the New York Metropolitan and then transferred them to Lafayette, Indiana in 1971. He then worked for National Homes and later became President of W.G. Best Homes in Effingham, Illinois. Their next adventure brought them back to Lafayette, Indiana, where he was President of Fluid Mechanics and finished his career at Great Lakes Chemical.
Throughout his life, he always had a smile, positive outlook, and a profound Catholic Faith. Bruce was an exceptional husband, father, son, brother, PaPa, and friend. He was known for his quick-witted sense of humor and always cherished family and friends. Bruce was a master of the charcoal grill and welcomed all to his home.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Ann; four daughters and their wonderful husbands, SaraBeth and Charley Vaughan of Carmel, Indiana, Amy and Erich Humbaugh of West Lafayette, Indiana, Megan and Michael McMahon of Pepper Pike, Ohio, and Emily and Robert Harrison of Attica, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Charles Junius Vaughan, Kevin Junius McMahon, Anna Mary, Matthew John McMahon, and Katherine Grace McMahon, and Helen Mary Ann Harrison and George Junius Harrison. Bruce loved making a birdie on the 18th, playing gin rummy, and watching Notre Dame football. He especially loved spending time with his family, his bridge group, “the gang” and his dear friends. Their second home in Naples, Florida brought even more happy memories throughout their later years.
