Thomas W. “Tom” Mitchell, 64, of Stockwell, passed away peacefully in his home. He was born in Lafayette to the late Ralph V. and Phyllis Jean (Kressley) Mitchell. He graduated from Wainwright High School in 1971 and worked for over 12 years at Wabash National, leaving as a supervisor in 2002. He continued employment there temporarily until he was unable to work due to health issues. Tom enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and target shooting. He also enjoyed nature and taking walks in the woods, as well as all Purdue sports. He was a people person who loved to socialize and nothing was more important to him than family and friends. He loved life and loved to laugh. Whenever Tom was around he naturally made everyone happy. He cherished his friends and family and was known for his generosity. It was not uncommon for him to make a meal for his friends, show up at his family’s door with steaks for everyone, or even purchase Purdue tickets. He loved buying gifts for those he cared about. Friday nights were spent with his brother, Dan, having dinner and just enjoying each other’s company. He is survived by his brother, Dan Mitchell; several close friends, his Uncle Don Kressley, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leo J. Mitchell; grandparents, Manson and Faye Kressley; and several aunts and uncles. Services will be private.
