Thomas Michael Reed, 64, of Lafayette, IN, died unexpectedly at 3:55 AM Saturday, July 7, 2012 at St Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, OH.
He was born October 14, 1947, in Huntington, WV, to the late Walter and Lucille Budenz Reed.
He graduated from St. Joseph Central Catholic High School and Marshall University with degrees in Geology and Geography/History.
On March 2, 1973 he married Candy Keyser at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Huntington, WV, and she survives.
He was employed for 17 years by MED Institute in West Lafayette, IN and previously worked in the television, cable, and broadcast industries.
He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral, the Brotherhood of St. Ignatius Bible Study, St. Mary Cathedral Parish Council, the board of directors of Caregiver Companion, Central Catholic Athletic Boosters, many Christ Renews His Parish teams locally and abroad, and a leader in RENEW 2000 (active through 2012). He volunteered for Lafayette Urban Ministry, Jubilee Christmas, St. Mary?s Elementary School, St. Boniface Middle School, Central Catholic Jr/Sr High School, founder of SEARCH at Central Catholic, Relay for Life, St. Mary Cathedral as a Eucharistic Minister, Sacristan, and lector, supporting missionary work to Haiti, and support at many Hollyberry Houses.
Surviving along with his wife Candy are two sons Nicholas Reed of Seattle, WA; Ryan Reed of Bellevue, WA; a daughter Ashley Reed of Lafayette; two brothers Al Reed (wife Betty and children Robert, Kelly, Susan, and John) of Houston, TX and David Reed (wife Bernice and son Mark) of Huntington, WV; a mother-in-law Marieatha Keyser of Oak Harbor, OH; sister-in-law Cindy Maynard (daughters Brittany and Brianna) of South Point, OH; two brothers-in-law Dale Keyser (wife Amy and son Austin) and George Keyser (children Michael and Michaela) of Huntington, WV . He was preceded in death by two brothers Richard (with surviving wife Pam and children Shea, Mickey, and Tony) and John Henry Reed; father-in-law JW Keyser; and brother-in-law Bryan Maynard (husband of Cindy Maynard).
He was the most loving, caring, and compassionate husband, an amazing father who was kind, gentle, and funny, a good friend to many, an honorary older brother to Art Taylor, and a life-long Cincinnati Reds fan. He loved books, rocks, hiking in National Parks and Monuments in the western US, and shopping at flea markets with his lovely wife.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 pm Thursday, July 12, 2012 with Rosary service at 4:45 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel 400 Twyckenham Blvd Lafayette, IN 47909. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 13 at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception with Fr. Bob Klemme and Fr. Thomas Nau officiating.

Those wishing may contribute in his memory to either the Lafayette Catholic School System or the Central Catholic SEARCH Retreat.

I was shocked and saddened when I heard of Tom&s passing. Tom and I became very good friends in high school while working together at Tradewell Market in Westmoreland. I have fond memories of those days and how Tom enjoyed life. May he live forever in God&s eternal light. To Tom&s family, please accept my condolences.

I was so shocked and after the surprise wore off I felt so sad. It&s so hard to believe.
Tom was a very good person and will be missed by many. I am however, glad that he made our class reunion several years back and everyone there got to say hello and see him after so many years. I was especially glad to see him.

Thom lived his life in service of faith, family and friends. It was my great honor to work with Thom. He was the voice of MED and will be greatly missed by his co-workers. We will always treasure the time he was with us and his quiet yet profound example of a life well lived. My sympathy and prayers are with the family.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Tom. You both were such special people and I loved being a part of the Search Team with you at St. Joe in Ironton. I remember coming to your house in Ceredo and having such a great time together. In reading his obituary, it looked like he was still involved in many activities in the church and with the Search program. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Love Amy

we know that during this time of sorrow and grief, that you will be comforted in knowing that spiritually, all is well with your loved one. He was a wonderful example to the family, of what a evoted father and husband should be. I remember seeing him two weeks ago in church, with his arm around his wife. Tom Reed was a very nice and compationate man to me and was the absolute best neighbor I have ever had....
