Thomas Gerald Klumpe, 81, of Lafayette, passed away June 2, 2026, at Franciscan Health, Lafayette.
He was born on March 9, 1945, in Dunnington, Indiana, to the late Herman and Margaret (Mauck) Klumpe. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and later earned an associate degree from a local business school. On January 28, 1967, he married Cheryl Ann Mesaros at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Lafayette. He was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and also maintained strong lifelong connections to St. Boniface and St. Ann’s Catholic Churches.
Throughout his life, Thomas held several positions, including Asphalt Technician with K. E. McConnaughay, Quality Control Specialist for Custom Building Products, and Parts Delivery Driver for Lafayette Auto Supply. He was an honored Highland Park resident, a former member of the Friends of Downtown, and was the proud owner of Posie Patch Bridal & Tuxedo.
Thomas had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed kayaking, fishing, tending to his yard, and flower gardening. A devoted Purdue fan through and through, he also had a lifelong passion for sports. After playing basketball in high school, (and being fondly referred to as “The Rocket”), he continued to stay active throughout his life by playing tennis and participating on a men’s volleyball team at the Lafayette Armory.
In addition to his love of sports and the outdoors, Thomas was a talented and creative artist who enjoyed painting, drawing, and sketching. He especially treasured time spent with family and friends, including memorable moments at Lake Michigan with his loved ones. Above all, Thomas cherished his time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and the many friends who brought joy to his life.
Along with his wife Cheryl, he is survived by his 3 daughters, Stephanie (Jason) Nunnally, Heather (John) Allen, and Melanie (James) Heath; 6 grandchildren, Brittani (Cory) Kirkham, Alex (Allison) Fay, Allison (Chase) Duncan, Max Haywood, Lauren Haywood, and Aidan Lowry; great-grandson, Evren Duncan; and 2 sisters, Mary Ann Pracht and Rita Pitman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Margaret Klumpe; 2 sisters, Margarett Mellady and Dorothy Neumuller; and 4 brothers, Herman, Richard, Joseph, and David.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 318 N. 9th St., Lafayette, IN 47904.
For those attending Mass, a dinner reception will follow at St. Michael Center, located at 816 North Street, Lafayette, Indiana 47901.
The family will also greet guests at an open memorial gathering from 5:00 – 6:30 pm, Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at St. Michael Center, 816 North St., Lafayette, IN 47901.
