Theresa S. ElGomayel, 81
Theresa S. ElGomayel, 81, of West Lafayette, died at 11:05 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Heritage Health Care.
Born Sept. 9, 1929, in Alexandria, Egypt, she was the daughter of the late Shoukri & Farida Helou.
She married Joseph I. ElGomayel in Egypt 1954 and he died on May 9, 2011.
Mrs. ElGomayel enjoyed collecting coins, singing and volunteering at St. Elizabeth and her church. She sang in the choir at Church of the Blessed Sacrament for over 30 years. She most enjoyed the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and family.
Survivors include a son, Ramzy (wife: Mona) Elgomayel of Alpharetta, Ga., and a daughter, Dina Martin (husband: Keith) of Wausau, Wis.
Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Sara and Jacob Martin, and Sydney, Alexandria and Cassidy ElGomayel, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death with her husband and parents were 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at Church of the Blessed Sacrament. Funeral Service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Church of the Blessed Sacrament. Fr. David Buckles officiating. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery. Those wishing may contribute to the Church of the Blessed Sacrament/American Heart Assoc. Envelopes available at Church. I just want you to know how special your mom was to me. She taught me all the descant parts when I first joined the Blessed Sacrament choir back in 1993-94. I quickly learned all I had to do was follow Theresa and I&d learn the songs quickly, and that I did. I&ve always loved her voice and when we made the CD, the first time I listened to it and Panis Angelicus came on it brought me to tears! She was so special to me those years in choir. We sat by each other and she encouraged me so greatly and we often got in trouble for laughing. She&d say something that would crack me up and I&d be giggling so hard that Cecile would have to remind us to stay on task. Ha!

All that aside, I always saw her as a very beautiful and elegant woman. I wanted to be like Theresa in dress and in voice. I loved, loved her many hats and jewelry! I can&t carry off wearing a hat, and every time I&d see her in a new one I&d so wish I could look like she did wearing a hat. So elegant!

She will be greatly missed and I&ll always hold a special place in my heart for my Theresa.

You had a wonderful father and mother. I felt privileged to meet them and enjoyed the visits I had with them in their home.

We knew Miss Theresa years ago when we were at Blessed Sacrament. I will always remember the beautiful way she sang ""Ave Maria"". Thinking of it still brings tears to my eyes.
