Thelma P. Miller, 96, of Fort Wayne, went to be with the Lord Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Coventry Meadows Nursing Facility in Fort Wayne. She was born September 10, 1925 in Casey, IL to the late Burt Washburn and Lucy Smith Washburn. She graduated from Casey High School and Indiana Central College (University of Indianapolis) and received her Master’s degree in early elementary education from Ball State. She taught in Glens Valley and Frankfort. On August 20, 1955 she married Rev. Robert L. Miller and they were together for 60 years until his passing in 2016. Over the years, she served as church secretary, was financial secretary, was a Watkins distributer, sold World Book encyclopedias, worked at Pillsbury/Green Giant, and Rostone. She enjoyed gardening, growing Amaryllis, refinishing furniture, camping, and cake decorating. She had a wonderful sense of humor.
Thelma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Surviving are her children: Jean Davis (Malcolm) of Lambertville, NJ, Carol Kelley (Carl) of Fort Wayne, David Miller (Elaine) of Bargersville, grandchildren Evan and Wendy Davis, Bryan Kelley (Cassandra), Megan Kelley (Skyler Conatser), Caitlin Horsford (Eric), Ian Kelley, Kara Wisniewski (Nathan), Zachary and Lauren Miller and great granddaughters Brenna and Reagan Kelley.
The last of nine children, she was preceded in death by Charles, Russel, Stanley “Bus”, Gladys Tynan, Earl, Lillian Chapman, Paul, and Kenneth Washburn.
Services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Stockwell United Methodist Church, 6941 Church St. Stockwell, IN with Rev. Jim Higdon officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM with the memorial service immediately following at 1:00. A live stream of the service can be seen here https://www.facebook.com/StockwellUMC/.
