Thelma L. Clugh

Thelma Louise Phillips Clugh, 83, of Lafayette, died Friday, July 16, 2010, at St. Mary Healthcare.
Born Dec. 5, 1926, in her family home in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Olney and Hazel Figg Phillips. She was a 1944 graduate of Amo High School and a 1950 graduate of Purdue University.
On Sept. 3, 1949, she married Thomas A. Clugh at her parents? home, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 2003.
Mrs. Clugh taught one year in West Lebanon, and was a local Avon representative for many years.
She was an active member of Brown Street United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was also a 50-year member of Sigma Phi Gamma sorority, where for many years she served as editor of its “Alpha Bits” newsletter.
Her passions were her family, faith, friends/sorority, Purdue sports, especially women?s basketball, Colts, Pacers, Fever, and her home and neighbors on Lake Freeman.
Surviving are four children, Larry (wife: Lou Ann), Robert (wife: Donna), Julie M., and Michael, all of Lafayette; two sisters, Vivian “Agnes” Burroff of Greencastle and Lela Mae Smyth of Danville, Ind.; and a brother, Clifford Phillips of Greencastle.
Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Misty N. Clugh, Andrew Clugh, Patrick M. Clugh, Brandon C. Clugh, Nastassja M. Richardson, Jadelyn M. Clugh and Tanner M. Clugh; and one great-granddaughter, Eden G. Clugh. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Frank, Walter “Bud” and Herbert Phillips.
Memorial Service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Brown Street United Methodist Church, the Rev. Bruce Mowery and Celebrant Lavonne Summers officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brown Street United Methodist Church; Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority, Founders Park, 3616 Hickory Lane, Lafayette, IN 47905; or the Amo H.S. Educational Grant Fund, 1140 Section St., Plainfield, IN 46168.
