Thelma Maxine Young, age 97, passed away Jan. 4, 2021 at Digby Place Assisted Living Community.
Maxine was a lifelong resident of Tippecanoe County. She was born Dec. 22, 1923 and grew up in the Crane Station area, a daughter of Charles and Grace Felix. She attended Wea Ridge and Dayton schools. After high school and during WWII she worked at Warren Paper Products and lived in Lafayette. In June of 1947 she married Gilbert “Gib” Young Sr., who worked for the Monon Railroad. They raised 2 sons and lived in Lafayette for many years prior to building a home in Woodcliff Acres where she lived 52 years. Most recently Maxine resided at Digby Place, Lafayette.
Gilbert and Maxine had many happy years living in the Lafayette area near many friends and extended family members. They enjoyed traveling in retirement years. Maxine enjoyed going for walks in her neighborhood and working in the yard. She was devoted to her family and spent many days visiting and assisting her sisters during the months they were in long term care facilities. She often visited other family members.
Maxine’s husband, Gilbert, passed away in Sept. 1992. Maxine lost a son, Charles Stephen “Chuck”, to complications of Diabetes in Sept. 1997. Also, preceding Maxine in death were her parents, siblings and several nieces and nephews. Siblings are: Mildred Bastian, Francis “Bud” Felix, Virginia Doyle, Charles “Junior” Felix, Rosella Reynolds, Michael Felix.
Surviving family members are Gilbert “Gib” Young Jr. and wife, Sandra of Huntington, IN. and daughter-in-law, Kathie Young of Lafayette, IN. Grandchildren are: Gwen Brandenburg (husband Tim) of Lafayette, IN., Sarah Young of Fishers, IN., Gabe Young (wife, Eirika) of Chicago, IL., Kristi Ream (husband Adam) of Greenwood, IN., Josh Young (wife Erin) of Lafayette, IN. Also 5 great-grandsons survive: TJ, Gabriel, Eli, Jack and Gatlin.
Private services will be held on Jan 11, 2021 at Soller-Baker Funeral Home.
