Susan Kay Shorter

Sue was born on March 17, 1951, to the late Dr. George M. Neher and Mary Evelyn Neher. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1969 and married her high school sweetheart, Timothy Shorter, on January 10, 1970, who preceded her in death in 2003. They had five children: Jessica Greene (husband Rory) who reside in Carmel; Christa Shorter (wife Cheryl) who reside in Indianapolis; Rachel Culbertson (husband Michael) who reside in Needham; Joshua Shorter (wife Amy) and Jordan Shorter, who both reside in Lafayette.

A graduate of Purdue University, Sue practiced nursing at Home Hospital for most of her career. She was passionate about being a nurse and greatly enjoyed her time on the post-partum unit caring for new mothers and babies, and the many friendships she made with her colleagues.

When not working, Sue enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, exercising, competitive thrifting, antiquing, watching football, attending Colts and Purdue football games, attending horse shows and concerts, and spending time with family and friends. Sue was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and enjoyed serving others through volunteer work at the food pantry.

Surviving with her children are two siblings: Pam Bishop (husband Paul) of Westerville, Ohio, and George Neher (wife Donna) of Bonita Springs, Florida. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Sarah, Katherine, Daniel, David, Hazel, and Roman; and two great-grandchildren: Mila and Sophie.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm at Soller-Baker Funeral Home- Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, Indiana 47909.
