Susan Jane Oxtoby, 81, of West Lafayette, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Westminster Village.
She was born January 6, 1945, in Kingston upon Hull, United Kingdom to the late John and Elsie (Clark) Spafford. She attended Malet Lambert School and continued her education at Padgate College of Education, obtaining her Bachelor Degree in Education. On April 14, 1973, she married her best friend and love of her life, Anthony Oxtoby at St James Church in Sutton-on-Hull, United Kingdom.
Susan was a member of the Church of England.
Susan was a teacher and loved working with children. She enjoyed arts and crafts, particularly knitting soft toys, and also loved to cook from her thousands of hand-written recipes. Susan was a voracious reader and especially enjoyed British WWII romance novels. She was happiest when spending time with her family, whether it was reading to her children and grandchildren, playing board games, or travelling with her husband to visit family and friends around the US and her native UK.
Along with her husband, Anthony, she is survived by her children, Andrew (and Tracy) Oxtoby of Indianapolis, Jonathan (and Angie) Oxtoby of Orlando, FL, David (and Julie) Oxtoby of Lafayette, and Daughter, Claire (and Ryan) Oxtoby of Bend, OR; a brother, John Spafford of South Cave, UK; 2 sisters, Christine Townend of Beverley, UK and Kathleen Spafford of Hull, UK; Grandchildren, Emma and Sophie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elsie Spafford, and a brother, Michael Spafford.
Private family services will be held at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, Lafayette Chapel.
