Stephen Wayne Prather, 68, of Lafayette passed away, March 1, 2017 at his home in Lafayette.
He was born January 2, 1949 in Lafayette to the late Eugene and Margaret Prather. He was a graduate of East Tipp High School and was a disabled Army veteran having served in Vietnam. Stephen worked as a first responder at the Purdue Airport.
Stephen was a movie buff and especially loved science fiction movies. Kind and generous, he was always willing to help out those less fortunate and he never met a stranger. He had a love for animals, his family joked he was the “animal whisperer” because animals, even wild ones would come right up to him. Above all things in life, Stephen cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his 2 children, David (Jackie) Prather of West Lafayette, Kristina Welsh of Kokomo; their mother, Vicki Prather; his wife, Janet of Kokomo, and her family; 5 grandchildren, Fallon, Micah, and Riley Prather and Paige and Adam Welsh; 3 siblings, Debbie Pelletier and Mike Prather of Cave Junction, OR and Joanna Prather of West Lafayette.
Memorial donations in Stephen’s name may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
