Stanley Dean DeWitt, 80, of West Lafayette, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus, where he was known as “Stan The Man”

He was born March 23, 1943, in Bourbon, IN, to the late Albert J. and Eloise M. (Joyce) DeWitt.

Stanley was an over the road truck driver for several years.  He was known over the road as “Stanley Steamer”.

He enjoyed working with and breaking horses, reading Louis L’Amour books, building go karts, spending time outdoors and telling stories.

Surviving are his children, Vanessa (husband Jason) Sowders of Lafayette, Rusty (Fiancé Tracy Cole) DeWitt of Romney, Matthew J. DeWitt of Las Vegas, NV, Beth Carey, Cathy, Jackie, Junior and Ricky, as well as a brother, Ernie DeWitt and his ex-wife, Lynn Fairgrief of Apple Valley, CA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Stanley was preceded in death by a sister, Jean DeWitt.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until the time of the service at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909

Memorial contributions may be made in Stanley’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
