Sandra Jo Smith passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
She was born at Home Hospital on September 16, 1946, to Robert and Jeane (Goff) Smith. She attended Battle Ground School and Ball State University. Her career consisted of several years owning her own painting and design business. She worked for State Farm Insurance and was employed with Purdue for 27 years, much of that time as Crew Chief in the paint department.
In loving memory, Sandi is cherished by her wife, Marsha Provo of West Lafayette and her precious rescue dog, Phoebe. She is survived by her sister Roberta Smith (Carole), her brother Mike Smith (Donna) of Westfield, IN., nieces and nephews, and many very dear close friends. Sandi never forgot her Battle Ground roots and treasured the memories and the time spent growing up there.
Preceded in death by her parents and an older brother, Jim Smith.
Sandi found much joy in animals. Some of her other interests were collecting and repairing watches, painting, woodworking and cars. She was happiest with a pet in her lap, a paint brush in her hand and a bowl of ice cream close by.
If you should wish to honor her memory with a donation, in lieu of flowers, please consider Natalie’s Second Chance or Almost Home Humane Society, both local animal shelters.
A visitation to celebrate Sandra will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Soller-Baker Funeral Homes and Crematory, 400 Twyckenham Boulevard, Lafayette, Indiana 47909 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
