Ruth O. Hays, 104, of Lafayette, passed away at 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at St. Mary Health Care. She was born May 1, 1910, in Milan, TN, to the late Robert E. and Dora M. Stiller Hargis. Ruth's first marriage was to Harry Hooker who preceded her in death, then on April 18, 1948, she married Kenneth E. Hays in Lafayette. He also preceded her in death in June of 1984. Ruth worked at the cosmetic counter at Loebs Department Store for many years. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church since 1948, where she was an usher, supervised and was a special coordinator of weddings, funerals and special receptions, was a volunteer receptionist for over 35 years, served on the Board of Deacons and on various church committees, she also sang in the choir. Along with her church affiliations Ruth was also a Charter member of the Elks Ladies 18 Hole Golf League, and a charter member of the Ladies West Central Golf Association. Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Carol Hooker, Sister, Nana Baraga both of Lafayette, 5 grandchildren, Mike Hooker (Becky), Todd Hooker (Joyce), Kenny Hooker (Jodi), Lori Hays and Brian Hays (Angie), 6 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons, Jerry Hooker and Tom Hays as well as 2 sisters, Doris Mathews and Mildred Banes. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel 400 Twyckenham Blvd Lafayette, IN 47909 with Rev's Jeff Cover and David Comstock officiating. Entombment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
