Ruth A. Lerch, 81, of Lafayette, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at her home. She was born January 10, 1939, in Lafayette to the late Charles and Esther (Shaw) Peffley. Ruth graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1958 and on August 10, 1958, she married Lonnie L. Lerch in Delphi and he survives. Ruth worked for State Farm Insurance Company for 37 years before retiring. She was a member of Moose Lodge, Eagles and Friends of Columbian Park Zoo. She enjoyed bowling and sewing.

Surviving along with her husband are her children Terry L. (Terri) Lerch of Lafayette, Peggy M. (Travis) Richardson of Frankfort, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters Katherine (Glenn) Bickett of Shadeland and Rosemary (Irvin) McGuire of Mikado, MI. Ruth was preceded in death by her sister Clara Smith.

Private service will be held on Tuesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Pastor Matt Sims officiating. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation in Ruth’s memory.

Dear Lonnie & Family, I enjoyed knowing Ruth, starting in Jr High School. She was such a gentle soul. Always had a smile when she greeted you. Had such fun in Block Section and various classes. Will miss her at our '58 Class Reunions! Special thoughts & prayers are with you.

Aunt Ruth was a wonderful person my thoughts and prayers are with you all . She always was the sweetest person of course other than her sister Clara my mom that is. I wish you all strength as this is a very difficult time. This is sent with very much love to all the Family .

It is with the deepest sadness that I write this note. I am so sorry for your loss. She was one of my favorite patients and there was so little I could do for her. I know she is resting peacefully now. I only hope that you can be consoled by that thought. Know that you, the survivors, are in my thoughts and prayers. Lonnie, Peggy, and Terry, I fondly remember bowling with Ruth and Peggy every week on the bowling team. We had some wonderful times! Keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers today and in the days to come.
