Roland Carl Johnson, 75, of Lafayette, passed away unexpectedly in his home, Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

He was born December 28, 1947, in Watseka to the late Roland Clifford and Irma Lucille (Allison) Johnson. He was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. On February 12, 1971, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Haupt. She survives. Roland proudly served in the United States Army, and was a Territory Sales Representative for Lafayette Venetian Blind. He was a 31-year member of American Legion Post #11.

Roland was an outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and gardening. He also liked to get his hands dirty, working on all kinds of projects. He was a “jack of all trades”. He could fix anything. Above all, Roland cherished time spent with his family and his buddies.

Along with his wife, Elizabeth, he is survived by their 2 children, Jason (Michelle Short) Johnson and Jennifer (Duskin) Davenport, both of Lafayette; 9 grandchildren, 3 siblings, Sharon (Mike) Mertz of Lakeland, FL, Mark Johnson of Yellville, AR, and Doris (Rick Hoag) Johnson of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Irma Johnson; a grandchild; and his sister-in-law.

So long old friend. I was shocked when I was informed of Carl's passing. The many nights of playing cards and laughing endlessly. One of the true friends that I cherished from my days at LVB..Libby and family my deepest and sincerest condolences.

Libby, Jason and Jennifer-- It's been a week and I still can't believe it. What keeps me going is all the fun Carl and I had. My fondest memory is all the afternoons and nights we spent in the garage with Carl shooting the breeze with all his buddies. Carl was in his element, he was a great storyteller. There is no place to begin, no words appropriate, nothing quite adequate to express the sadness of my family and our sympathies for Libby, Jason, and Jennifer at the news of the loss of their beloved Carl ! My father and Carl were best friends! My mother was like a grandmother to Libby and the kids! Carl was my friend! We all loved Carl ! Rest in peace Old Buddy!!!

Carl never saw a stranger! You could always count on Carl stopping by as he made his rounds on his golf cart at the camp grounds. We always had to visit with Carl and Libby. We knew there would be laughter and great stories especially great fish stories! He was a great fisherman. No, he was the truly, a great fisherman. Mark already misses his buddy, as he was to many men at Running T. We have lost a good man of which Heaven has gained. Libby, we grieve with you. Our love to you and your family.

Carl will be missed by many. I know I’ll miss knowing he’s keeping an eye out on the neighborhood, him texting me to make sure Jacob and I are okay, and of course, all of the little things he’d do to help around my house without me even asking. He always reminded me of my own dad in so many ways. Libby and Jennifer, please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything I can do.
