Robin McKinley Warren, 80, of Dayton, Indiana, left his disabled earthly body and joyfully met his Savior in the early morning of January 22, 2024, becoming physically whole again. Robin was born in Putnum County, Indiana on December 20, 1943, to the late Leco Warren and Viola (Lanham) Warren Ottinger, who proceeded him in death.
Robin graduated from Boswell High School in 1962 and married his high school sweetheart, Violet Buchanan. His greatest gift from that marriage is his son, Ryan Warren (wife Colleen) of West Lafayette. They later divorced and Robin married his ‘one true love’ and the one with whom he would he grow old, Beverly (Martin) Boles Warren on February 5, 1971, and she survives. Beverly was widowed at a very young age and brought Vicki (Boles) Quigley (husband Shawn), Lafayette and Donnie Boles (wife Julie) of Mulberry to their marriage, and Robin loved them as his own. They soon added three little girls to complete their family, Beth Rudisaile (husband Tom) of Shadeland, Jodi Johnston (husband Brendan) of Kramer and Joni Robinson (husband Dusty) of West Point.
Robin enthusiastically loved auto racing as did his family, and many great memories were made on summer Saturday nights in Benton County, while they watched his son, Donnie (#67) race. He was an avid Nascar fan and loved cheering on his Boilers and Pacers. He served 20 years with the Purdue Police Department and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and was a Lafayette small business owner of Dayton Auto Sales, until he retired in 2005. He was a member of The Gathering Point Church, formerly Dayton United Methodist Church.
Robin spent his last several days with his wife, children and grandchildren at his bedside in Mulberry Health. His children were drawn even closer together as they provided comfort for their father. His last day on earth was spent surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and his ‘baby sister’ for one last family pizza party that included singing and praying, and the family’s ‘goodbyes’ were said. What peace his family shares as they all know their promise of salvation.
Robin is survived by ‘gobs’ of grandchildren whom he loved fiercely and would brag about often. They were his pride and joy. Brendan, Wesley, Preston, and Albert Quigley; Caroline, Leah, and Jillian Warren; Hannah, Clara (Fiancé Jacob Taylor), Eli and Lily Boles; Molly (Fiancé Tyler Barnes) and Jake Rudisaile; Toby and Ella Mattox and Daniel (wife Erica) Johnston; Reagan Geswein (husband Mitchell), Riley Wickes (husband Jake), Brooklin and Briann Robinson. He also had 3 great grandchildren, Rowan and Gunner Geswein and Adley Wickes, and one on the way, Baby Wickes (June 2024).
He is also survived by his brother Russell Warren (wife Karen) of Englewood, Florida and his sister Lisa Hollis (husband Harold) of Attica. Additionally, Robin is survived by several cousins and kinfolk for whom he served as the family patriarch. His children were especially proud that he was revered by this extended family.
Along with his parents, Robin was proceeded in death by his sister, Linda Groleau and brothers, Roger Warren and Robert ‘Steve’ Warren as well as his in-laws, Gene and Victoria Martin.
Robin was dearly loved and his children hope to carry on his legacy. Robin was known for his love of family, having a home that was open to everyone, his countless stories and ‘Robin-isms’. Anyone who met Robin adored his gentle nature, sly grin, and those extremely predictable sayings, such as, “I bet that’s the oldest you’ve ever been” instead of happy birthday, ”signal 9” for never mind, calling out “Beverly Line 1!” when she got a phone call, exclaiming “Dammit Donnie” for Donnie’s little mishaps and things he had no word for were called “hoochie-cow”.
Beverly, her children and grandchildren and all of the family will have an ache in their hearts, but are comforted by their immensely strong family bond. They will keep his spirit alive by sharing his ‘Robin-isms’ which made them all lovingly roll their eyes. And as Robin would say about his departure to heaven and about this obituary,” Over and Out”.
A life well lived will be honored by visitation and celebration of life from 10 am to Noon, Monday, January 29, 2023, at The Gathering Point Church with a service following at 12:00pm. Burial and graveside service will follow at the Dayton Cemetery. Pastor Tim Lanham (one of Robin’s many cousins) will perform the service, and this would make Robin greatly pleased indeed.
