Robert W. Montgomery, 88, of Battle Ground, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East surrounded by his family.

He was born March 17, 1935, in Seymour, Indiana, to the late Rev. Clyde and Mildred (Helt) Montgomery.

Robert graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute and attended Olivet Nazarene College in Bourbonnais, IL.

On June 1, 1957, he married Marilyn Joyce Beard in Bruceville, IN and she survives. They had 66 wonderful years together.

Robert worked in finance and banking in Indiana, Robinson, Illinois, and Salem, Illinois.

Bob and Joyce made may great friends motorhoming all over the country with favorite spots being Alaska and Newfoundland. They spent many winters with friends in Florida and Texas. They had many happy days boating on Kentucky and Barkley Lake.

He attended Berean Baptist Church in Lafayette. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the Ainad Shrine, and was involved with several service clubs over the years.

Surviving along with his wife is his daughter Kelly (Steve) Curtis of Battle Ground, IN, granddaughters, Jill (Joe) Kelleher of Plymouth, MI, Jamie (Bryan) Linenberg of Noblesville, IN, great grandchildren , Benjamin Kelleher, Wesley Kelleher, Jackson Kelleher, Anna Linenberg, and Emma Linenberg.

Also surviving is his sister Brenda Spencer of Frankfort, KY and sister-in- law Dee Montgomery of Watseka, IL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his siblings Helen Vaught, Luke Montgomery, and his brother-in-law Rev. Kenneth Vaught.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West, West Lafayette, Pastor Brent Floyd officiating. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Berean Baptist Church or James Cole Elementary School.

January 9, 2024 Dear Kelly, Steve, and families… Please accept our heartfelt sympathy in the painful and untimely loss of your beloved father, father-in-law, and grandfather. May you all continue to find comfort and hope from our thoughts, prayers, and reassurances that others care and remember you in your loss and grief. Although words from friends can’t take away the sadness you have in your heart or ease the loneliness that comes when loved ones have parted. Our trust is that you will find that inner strength to continue as a tribute, to “Bob’s” great memories with each of you and with us. Og Mandino, the famous author wrote, “So each of us in our own way, endures our loss, but cherishes the memories. Just as it should be.” However, when one’s heart is frozen in shock from the loss of a loved one, it is family and friends who share their expressions of compassion and friendship which help to sustain us and soften the painful grieving process. I worked with Bob for a few years at Crawford County State Bank in Robinson IL in the 70's. What an asset he was to the Loan Department. We were sorry to see them move to Salem. My condolences to Joyce, Kelly and the rest of the family for the loss of this great guy.

We were so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I (Cindy) worked with Bob from 1980 to 1990 at Community State Bank in Salem,IL. He was a remarkable man who touched the lives of so many. Wishing Joyce, Kelly and family peace and comfort during this most difficult time. Cherish all your memories.
