Robert Sims Poindexter, 83, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on February 25, 2026. Born April 11, 1942, in Wolcott, Indiana, he was the son of Tim and Christine (Sims) Poindexter.
Robert graduated from Wolcott High School in 1960. On June 22, 1963, he married Beverly Bessler, who preceded him in death in 1989. Together they built a life rooted in family, faith, and community.
Robert dedicated over 30 years of his career as a butcher at Annis Finer Foods in Remington, Indiana. He later continued his work at Meijer in Lafayette until his retirement. In addition to his professional career, he faithfully served his community as an EMT in Remington and was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Remington.
Following retirement, Robert moved to Brownsville, Texas, later returning to Lafayette in 2017. He found great joy in cooking—often discovering new recipes on the Food Channel and online—and sharing his culinary creations with friends and family. He also enjoyed spending time fishing and making memories with loved ones. Above all, he cherished his role as Grandpa to his four grandchildren, of whom he was immensely proud.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his sister, Joyce (Don) Worthington of Fort Collins, Colorado; his brother-in-law, Tonie Snyder of Reynolds; and his children, Rob Poindexter of Indianapolis, Lisa Harvey of West Lafayette, and Pam Cochran of Noblesville, who were the pride and joy of his life. He was a devoted grandfather to Korine Poindexter of Indianapolis, Logan Poindexter of Carmel, Drew (Michelle) Harvey of Whitestown, and Dr. Zoe (Brett) Cochran Chasnick of West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, each of whom brought him immeasurable happiness.
He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews – Gary (Kathy) Poindexter, Brian (Vidaliza) Poindexter, Roger (Tammy) Poindexter, Kris (Susan) Poindexter-McHahn, Steve (Angela) Poindexter, Jim Poindexter, Donna (Dave) Porter, Dennis (Beatrix) Rausch, Cheryl Jacobs, Kevin (Tammy) Rausch, Todd (Michelle) Snyder, and Kirk (Jill) Snyder – along with many great-nieces and great-nephews who will carry his memory forward.
Robert was welcomed into eternal rest by his parents, Tim and Christine; his beloved wife, Beverly Bessler Poindexter, with whom he shared a lifetime of love; his father- and mother-in-law, Harry (Babe) and Isabelle Hardebeck Bessler; his brothers, James, Richard, and Tim Poindexter; his sister, Carolyn Burrell; his sisters-in-law, Lorena Poindexter and Carolyn Snyder; his brother-in-law, Don Burrell; and his niece, Angela Snyder Williams.
Per his wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral. His ashes will be laid to rest beside his dearest Beverly in a private family ceremony in the Remington Sacred Heart Cemetery.
