Robert “Max” James, 94, Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at his home. He was born July 31, 1932, in Lafayette, IN, to the late John James and Dorothy (Anglin) Gross. He was a veteran of the Army serving during the Korean War.
Max was a Heavy Equipment Operator in and around the Lafayette area for many years and enjoyed restoring antique trucks and cars.
Surviving are his nieces Kayce Auman of Greencastle, IN, Brenda Rendon of Romney, Tina Richardson of Oklahoma City, OK, Kristie Longest of Seminole, OK, Carol Ann James of Shawnee, OK., nephews Jaimie Rayburn of Crawfordsville, Max Rayburn of Romney, Kenny James of Shawnee, OK, and Curtis James of Prague, OK. Max was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Edna James, siblings Gary James and Carol Rayburn and niece Cindy Ratcliff.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at New Richmond Cemetery in New Richmond, IN.
