Robert Lyle Osborne, affectionately known as “Bob,” age 73, passed away at 4:20 p.m. with family at IU Health Methodist Hospital on Saturday, March 30, 2024. He was born on January 24, 1951, in Lafayette, IN, and was a lifetime resident of West Point, IN. Bob was a graduate of Southwestern High School and pursued further education at Vincennes University.
In a memorable ceremony and unprecedented reception, Bob married Mary LuAnn Smith in St. Boniface church on September 24, 1983.
Bob worked at General Foods for 28 years, SIA for several years, and Lehnen’s Furniture and Warehouse until retirement.
He was a competitor. Bob created unbelievable memories with lifelong friends playing slow-pitch softball, volleyball, and football on almost every diamond, court, and field across the state. He was an avid participant in weekly ping-pong matches, where he showcased his skills, often triumphing over his opponents. Bob welcomed new challengers with confidence, making these gatherings interesting for all.
Bob cherished the outdoors and found joy in activities such as bow hunting, camping and fishing with family, and cross-country road trips to Colorado. He had a green thumb, and a passion for cars and guns, indulging in these hobbies whenever he could.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his daughters Erika E. Osborne of Avon, and Brooke E. Osborne of Pueblo, CO (Shaquawan F. Mcgill), as well as his mother, Alice G. Osborne of West Point, and brother Richard L. Osborne of Carmel (Jan Osborne).
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert H. Osborne, and a host of beloved pets and animals that were a testament to his lifelong love and curiosity for nature.
