A Private Family Service Is Being Held
Rita Zachariah, 90 of Lafayette died March 1, 2026. She was born September 1, 1935 near Leavenworth, Kansas to the late Henry and Margaret (Wolfarth) Behne. On August 23, 1953 she married Gerald Zachariah who preceded her in death on December 20. 1991.
Rita was an avid reader and had traveled extensively, having been to all fifty states and over 37 foreign countries. She grew up in Kansas and had lived in New Jersey, California, and Florida as well as Indiana. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and Tri Kappa.
She is survived by a son, Stephen Zachariah, wife Patty of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Sara Zachariah of Washington, Anna Zachariah Welscott (husband Doug) of Central America, Matthew Zachariah of South Carolina and Marshall Zachariah of Lafayette; and a great granddaughter, Harper Zachariah as well as a brother and a sister.
Rita was preceded in death by two sons, Mark Zachariah, 1978 and Michael Zachariah, 2005, two brothers and two sisters.
A private family burial will take place.
