Rita A. Haynes, 80, of Lafayette died Friday, January 29, 2016 at The Springs in Lafayette; in her final days she was surouned by her family. She was born April 12, 1935, in Benton County to the late Theodore and Anna Becker Scherer and was a graduate of Battle Ground High School. She was cashier at Kroger and a cook at several schools in Tippecanoe County. Rita worked for 10 years at CTS Electronics before retiring. She had been a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and Room Mother at Miami School. Rita enjoyed crafts, ceramics, knitting, crocheting and her animals. Surviving are her children James H. Haynes Jr. (Linda) of West Point, Lisa M. O'Brien (Keith) of Lafayette, Angie M. Eads of Mulberry, grandchildren Levi Haynes, Jennifer Maurer, Nathan Eads, Alex Maurer, Matthew Eads and a great-granddaughter Sophia Haynes. Also survivng are her sisters Carol Allen (Barry) of West Lafayette, Mary Joanne Robb of Lafayette, brothers Butch E. Scherer of Lafayette, Pat Scherer (Deb) of Fowler and Daniel J. Scherer of Lafayette. Rita was preceded in death by brothers Jerry Scherer, Dick Scherer and a sister Marge Winstead. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Memorial Service will be 5:00 PM Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Those wishing may contribute to the Almost Home Humane Society in Rita’s memory.
