Richard E. Booher, 89
Richard Elwood Booher, 89, of Lafayette, IN, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011, at HCR Manor Care at Prestwick, Avon, IN.
Richard “”Dick””,””Rich”” Booher was born February 27, 1922, in Otterbein, IN, to Arthur and Nelle Young Booher. He graduated from Otterbein High School and Purdue University. Upon graduation from Purdue in Electrical Engineering, he was commissioned into the US Navy. Lt. Booher&s tour of duty included teaching reservists at the United States Naval Academy during WW II.
On September 1, 1943, he and Martha Franklin of Green Hill, daughter of J.W. and Ella Franklin, were married in Annapolis,MD. She preceeded him in death in March of 2000.
At the conclusion of his Naval service, Martha and Richard moved to Mansfield, OH, where he worked for Ohio Brass. Several years later they moved to Lafayette where he worked for ALCOA as an electrical engineer for the next 30 years until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of Congress Street United Methodist Church and the Otterbein Masonic Lodge. He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, and watching and feeding birds and squirrels.
Surviving are 3 daughters: Barb Meyer, husband John, and their three children, David, Phil, and Linda Meyer all of Wisconsin; Peg Bousum, husband Dick, of Avon and their two children Kelli Fisher, husband George of Lafayette and Rick Bousum, wife Sara, of Brownsburg; and Becky Kilgore, husband Marc, of Indianapolis and their 2 children, Doug of Indianapolis and Chris of Evansville. He was preceded in death by parents and grandaugther, Erin Bousum.
Visitation will be 5:00- 8:00 PM Monday, November 28, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with a Masonic service at 7:45 PM and Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. The Funeral Service will be at 11;00 A.M. on Tuesday at Sollar-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Rev. Clarinda Crawford will be officiating. Burial will be at Pond Grove Cemetery, Otterbein.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or American Red Cross.
