Richard “Dick” Arlon O’Neill, 80, of Lafayette passed away unexpectedly June 6, 2018 at IU Health Arnett.
He was born on 31 January 1938 in Memphis, TN to the late Edward Milton and Margarette Clayton (Jones) O’Neill. He was the second child of six live births. He graduated from high school and received his Bachelor of Science degree at University of Wisconsin in Eau Clair and his Master’s Degree at Stout University in Menomie, WI.
Richard married the love of his life, Jan L. (Hubbard) Ranard, on January 1, 2001 at McCormick Creek State Park in Spencer, and they established their home in Lafayette. They enjoyed their retirement years together and were members of Evangelical Covenant Church of Lafayette.
Richard had four children by a previous marriage, Rebecca Kay Farrell, Stephen Edward O’Neill, Michael John O’Neill, and Deborah Lynn Bradshaw.
Richard was a private, instrument rated pilot and volunteered many hours of Search & Rescue for the Civil Air Patrol/USAF. He enjoyed careers with IBM in Computer Science, and as a Vocational Educator for a quarter century. In retirement, he conducted workshops for the State of Indiana, Division of Workforce Development.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Ranard O’Neill; his children Rebecca Farrell, Michael O’Neill, and Deborah (John) Bradshaw; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Wallace Roland O’Neill of Eau Claire, WI; 4 sisters, Betty Carolyn Schneider of Alma, WI, Margarette Elizabeth (O’Neill) Johnson of Belton, MO, Dorothy Patricia (O’Neill) Grafton of Hanover, IL, and Dolores Marie (O’Neill) Bandow of Missoula, MT.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Stephen O’Neill; and a grandson, Zach O’Neill.
Memorial contributions in Dick’s name may be given to Evangelical Covenant Church, 3600 S. 9th St., Lafayette, IN 47909. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00, Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Evangelical Covenant Church, 3600 S. 9th Street, Lafayette with Pastor Stacey Littlefield officiating.
Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville.
