Darlene, I enjoyed getting to know Dick as a warm and welcoming colleague in ministry. I smilled at seeing you two sitting close together at Westminstry vespers. May God be very close to you as you grieve the earthly absence of "your other half." Blessings, ANella
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I met the Cases at Union Church (Huntington, IN). ( -his pastorate when Tania was born). He gave us a class before we were to be baptized after camp. I bet there were more than 12 of us saved, in the class, and baptized! I ran into them again when he was at the Heritage - what important work with those at the end of their lives. He touched many lives. I am thankful he touched mine.

Darlene, Tonia, and Amber, this is from a book I wrote: In 1980, my second year as a counselor at Hutchinson Community College, I moved into an office in the Student Services Center, next door to the campus minister. Back in those days, college campuses had campus ministers. Our campus minister was named Dick Case. I was twenty-nine years old; Dick was around thirty-five. Over the next couple of years, Dick and I developed a close personal friendship. I learned to admire and respect Dick greatly for his approach to campus ministry. He was not driven by climbing ministerial ranks or an elevated position. His life was focused around service to people. He had a steady stream of kids coming to his office, and no matter how troubled a kid was he found goodness in them. He was never holier than thou, or judgmental. To me, he represented what a Christian should be. Dick worked with murderers from the local prison, and young kids who had lost their way. He treated everyone with respect, kindness and consideration. Our co-workers loved him. His nickname, given in love, was Reverend Rowdy. Sometime or another, when Dick and I were having a lunchtime conversation, we turned to favorite books. Dick mentioned that a book that had been impactful for him was the Velveteen Rabbit, by Margery Williams. He told me that it was a children’s book but had very deep meaning. A few days later, I found a copy of the Velveteen Rabbit on the seat of my office chair signed, “From Reverend Rowdy.” Later that year, I heard Dick deliver a sermon using that book as a theme. His message about love, patience, and what really matters resonated with me then, and still does, forty plus years later. It was an honor to know and work with Rev. Just a downright great guy, who I deeply respected and loved. My deepest condolences.

To the Case family, We were sad to hear the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. We have so many good memories with him and your family at Dillman. He didn't have a mean bone in his body. He always took time to talk at Heritage Point and update us on the family. Bless be the ties that bind our hearts in Christian love. Our prayers will continue for your family. Barry and Cherry Story
