Rex G. Lawson, 83, of Monticello, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Franciscan Health East in Lafayette.
He was born November 20, 1939, in New Castle, to the late Kenneth and Ruth (Spaulding) Lawson.
Rex graduated from New Castle High School and proudly served in the US Army from 1963 until being honorably discharged in 1965.
On March 15, 1962, he married Lora Mae Morehouse in Florida. She passed away on December 30, 2015.
Rex worked as a Hod Carrier for the Local #274 Union for 25 years before retiring.
He was a lifetime member of Amvets of Monticello, VFW, and 50-year member of the Local #274 Union.
Rex enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, watching birds and being at his home on the river.
Surviving are daughter, Lora (Kent) Kellogg of Monticello, a stepson, Kenneth (Anita) Killian of Sterling, AK, three sisters, Beatrice Ferguson of Mount Juliet, TN, Becky Tow of New Castle, IN and Marilyn Henke of Sumrall, MS. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren, Tosha (Daniel) Musselman, Trenton (Jeanine) Young, Brian Kirby, Christie (Dave) Burton, Charles (Mary) Reners, Michael Valentine, Kenneth II (Suzan) Killian, Shawn Killian, Kelly Paxton, Wendy (Jacob) McKinney, Kimberly (Paul) Gerald, Lindsey (Glover) Braden, Michelle (Zaye) Armstrong, Brad (Kristal) Kellogg, Nick (Cortney Shaver) Kellogg, Kyle (Jacob Cherogan) Kellogg and Iris (Dave) Hines. Along with thirty-two great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren.
Rex was preceded in death by stepdaughters, Barbara Valentine and Vickie Scott a grandson, Dale Kirby and four brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, with Pastor Steven Fritchman officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Rex’s name to the Buffalo Volunteer Fire and EMT Department.
