Phillip “Phil” Andrew Hunley of Lafayette died Thursday, July 13 at Franciscan Hospital. He was born October 18, 1962, in Lafayette, IN, to the late Orval and Mary Hunley. A 1981 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School, Phil went on to serve in the United States Navy.
He was married to Nancy Ann Randall on August 29, 1992, in West Lafayette, and she survives.
Phil was a born athlete beginning at Pine Village Elementary, through Seeger Memorial Junior-Senior High School, and throughout Lafayette Jeff, culminating as a championship wrestler. He grew to enjoy the game of golf and boating on Lake Freeman. He not only lived and died by Purdue football and basketball, he was also an avid Colts fan! Phil loved being in the car business with his brothers, Stan and Luke, but he had a passion for the “vintage” cars, specifically the 1971 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda’ convertible. Two lesser-known hobbies that he was exceptionally good at were photography and gardening. But most of all, Phil loved his time with his wife and two sons, whether it was at the boys’ sporting events, at Lake Freeman or Long Boat Key, or simply at home.
He is survived by his two sons: Andrew Lucas Hunley and Alec Randall Hunley, granddaughter Kollins Hunley and grandson Amari Hunley, respectively, of Lafayette, IN; sister Barbara Hunley and husband Bob Cheney, of Dallas, TX; brother Timothy Hunley, deceased, and wife Linda, of Bradenton, FL; brother Alva Hunley and wife Trudy, of Scotsdale, KY; Sister Pamela Hunley-Leader, of Lafayette, IN; brother Silas Hunley and wife Laquita, of Wolcott, IN; brother Joseph Hunley and wife Mary Lou, of West Lafayette, IN; sister Rhoda Hunley-Watson and husband Robert, of Sebastian, FL; sister Cecelia Hunley-Shoaf and husband Tim, of Appleton, WI; brother Stanley Hunley and significant other Nancy Smith, of Lafayette, IN; sister Beverly Hunley-McCarthy and husband Joe, of Crestview, FL; and brother Luke Hunley and wife Kathleen, of Lafayette, IN.
Visitation will be from 1-3 PM Wednesday, July 19 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, followed by the funeral service at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. You may leave condolences at www.soller-baker.com
