Philip Mugg, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on April 27, 2024, in Lafayette, Indiana, at the age of 73. He was preceded by both his parents. He was born on September 28, 1950, to Francis E. Mugg and Louis W. Armstrong in Kokomo, Indiana. Both Francis and Louis have since passed on. Philip had a sister Linda L. Mugg (spouse Jack R. Heflin). They have 3 daughters Heather S. Heflin (spouse John Bohn), they have 2 sons, Hillary L. Heflin (spouse Sean Person), they have 1 daughter and 1 son, Harmony A. Heflin (spouse Dan Boeh) they have 1 daughter and 1 son. Philip also had a brother Stephen F. Mugg (departed spouse Susan E. Merritt) they have a son Aaron J. Mugg (spouse Monika Hanseen) they have 1 daughter and 1 son; they also have a daughter Amy Mugg (spouse Asher Sinensky) they have 1 daughter and 1 son. Philip married Kathy D. Mugg, in 1977, and together they raised two wonderful children, Dustin P. Mugg (spouse Jennifer L. Humphrey) and Jason A. Mugg. He was a devoted grandfather to Jocelyn L. Mugg, Lilia F. Mugg, Everett P.M. Mugg children of Dustin and Jennifer Mugg; Nolan F. Mugg child of Jason Mugg and (Leslie Foutz).

Philip attended Kokomo High School and graduated in 1968. He went on to study at Indiana University and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. During his time at Indiana University, Phil joined Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, where he participated with the Little 500 cycling team. During his first year on the team, they had won first place and was awarded the championship trophy of the 1969 Little 500. This was the first time that Alpha Tau Omega had won this event. Phil was given the Award of Excellence for his service with the Indiana University steering committee. Philip continued to be an avid Indiana fan his whole life. When Phil graduated, he started work as the Transportation Director for Monroe County from 1973-1976. During this time Phil also had time to be deputized by the Monroe County Sherrif Department on January 30^th, 1975. Phil worked as the Director of Transportation for Tippecanoe County in Indiana from 1976 to his retirement in 2006. During this time, he received multiple awards, which included being recognized as President of the Indiana Pupil Transportation Association 1988-1989. Phil also received the Richard E. Pea award in 2000. After his retirement, the TSC Board named the service center after him, the Philip E. Mugg Service Center. Philip then had a short stent with a start-up company where he was director of accounts at Synovia Solutions in Indianapolis Indiana. Where he helped develop gps mapping systems for busses around the nation.

Philip had many hobbies, including golf, coaching his sons’ teams in baseball, and basketball. Phil also ran the timeclock for Harrison High School football and basketball programs. Phil had many trips with family and friends which included snow-skiing, trips like going to Alaska as well as destinations like Hawaii, and other various areas. During his retirement Phil enjoyed spending time with all his family including his golden retriever, Chestnut. He and his wife’s sister Karen and husband Gary enjoyed many motorcycle rides throughout the backroads of Indiana, camping trips that included roasting plenty of marshmallows and popping popcorn.

Phil was known for his dedication to his hard work, and his community. For those who knew him, Philip will be remembered for his kind heart, his unwavering love for his brother Stephen and sister Linda, his two sons, and his grandchildren, and his passion for helping others.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd.
