Paul T. Maier MD, 68, of West Lafayette, IN, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born June 28, 1945, in Chicago, IL to the late Vincent and Mary Healy Maier. On September 30, 1972, he married Cheryl “Cherry” Chalfant in Winchester, IN and she survives. Paul served in the United States Army in Germany from 1973 to 1975. He received his undergraduate degree and Medical Degree from Loyola University in Chicago. Paul was a cardiologist at the Arnett Clinic and IU Health Arnett for 32 years and retired in 2011 to enjoy his hobbies and pursue new adventures. Paul loved to be in nature, especially hiking through the National Parks with his good friends and traveling to some of the world's most beautiful places with his wife and family. He also enjoyed woodworking, cooking, and spending time with his family. Paul was active with the Boy Scouts for many years. He traveled to one National Jamboree and two World Jamborees in Europe and Asia. Surviving along with his wife Cherry are his children Vincent R. Maier (Sara) of Lafayette, Leah E. Stern (Scott) of Chicago, IL, Susan M. Maier of West Lafayette, and granddaughter Etta C. Stern. Also surviving is his sister Kathleen Maier of Oak Lawn, IL. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Thursday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Fr. Kevin Hurley officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery. Those wishing may contribute in Paul's memory to the Boy Scouts of America.
