Patrick Thomas Gladden of Lafayette, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on January 28, 2023, at the age of 30. He was born on February 7, 1992, in Peoria, Illinois with his twin sister Sarah to parents John and Cheryl Gladden.
Patrick held many titles during his life, that he carried with the utmost admiration and love. A devoted father, loving husband, loyal son, protective twin brother, the sweetest uncle, and the truest friend. For anyone who knew Patrick, you know that he knew no stranger, was our own personal comedian, and lived for the adventures that life would bring.
From the moment he could walk, Patrick was on the go. He was always climbing, jumping or getting into something, never a dull moment to be had. He attended St. Mary’s Elementary School, St. Boniface and East Tipp Middle school, and was a 2010 graduate of Harrison High School.
Patrick served on the Buck Creek Fire Department where he took so much joy in helping others including organizing their annual fish fry. He was a member of the Rossville Free Masons and a BPole Boy with his friends. In 2018, Patrick was honored at an Indianapolis Pacers game as an Indiana State Hero, for the quick action he took in saving a life. After witnessing a car drive into a retention pond, Patrick swam out to the man, broke his window open and pulled the man to safety as the car sank.
Patrick worked at several jobs including Culvers, Pep Boys, Anderson Heating and Cooling and Mike Baker Electric. He found electrical work to be his true passion. He went on to become a journeyman electrician graduating from the electrician apprentice program with an Associate Degree from Ivy Tech Community College. He has been a very active member of the IBEW 668, serving as the Lafayette Local Vice president, along with serving as Vice president of the local RENEW group, EWMC, and an active member of the steering committee for Capital Improvements. He loved his union local lapel pins and formed close relationships with IBEW members across the country collecting and trading pins. He was honored at the IBEW Convention in Chicago for winning the 6th District Lapel pin challenge which he worked so hard to design with his sister Sarah.
Patrick married the love of his life Morgan Barron Hunter on a beautiful fall day surrounded by hundreds of friends and family. He was never one to shy away from emotion, and always wore his heart on his sleeve. Patrick adored Morgan, their two crazy Great Danes and the beautiful life they had built together.
On May 12th, 2021, Patrick gained his greatest title of “Father” when Henry Ray Gladden came into the world. Patrick’s smile shined when he was with Henry, and his face lit up whenever he talked about his son. He was the most amazing Dad. He changed diapers, transitioned Henry into his crib and got him sleeping through the night. He watched endless hours of Tractor Ted, and never hesitated to do what was best for his family. He enjoyed bringing Henry all around town and showing him off to all who were around. Patrick created so many memories in his short time with Henry, and Henry will always be reminded how much his Daddy loved him.
Patrick had a true zest for life and lived to help others and make them smile. He had the most contagious laugh and a smile that lit up any room. From bonfires in the backyard to backpacking through Europe with his best friend, camping, kayaking, skydiving, scuba diving and everything in between. He loved cooking stuffed peppers, collecting, history, movies, tattoos and living life to the very fullest. He was your number one supporter, your biggest fan, and leaves behind a world of people who are better, having known him. He truly was the life of the party.
His sudden loss weighs heavy on the hearts of his family and friends, as we know that he will always be with us. We will hold onto his memory, and he will live on through the stories we tell, of the crazy adventures he went on and his light that shined so bright. We pray that he rests in peace knowing just how very much he was loved. We are confident he is in a better place looking down on us.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Morgan (Barron Hunter) Gladden; son, Henry Ray Gladden; parents, John and Cheryl Gladden; his sister, Sarah (Gladden)Thoma and brother-in-Law Ryan Thoma; niece, Harley Marie Thoma; and nephews, Scout Ryan Thoma and Oliver Dean Hunter; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
