Pat was born in Galion, Ohio to Mary and Philip Auer on August 7, 1935. She went to school at Galion High School and graduated in 1953. She went on to earn a teaching certificate at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
Pat married her high school sweetheart, John Stump, on August 7, 1955. They met over the French horn in the high school band. Her high school year book described her as “dependable, trustworthy, and capable” and these three words have continued to describe her throughout her life. John and Pat spent their first few years in Columbus, OH, and then moved to Bucyrus, OH for three years where John practiced Veterinary Medicine.
In 1961, John, Pat, and the children moved to West Lafayette where John joined the faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University where he is a Professor Emeritus. Pat worked as a substitute elementary teacher and temporary services in many different departments at Purdue. She volunteered countless hours at her home church, Covenant Presbyterian Church and enjoyed quilting, reading, making cards of encouragement, and spending time with her family and friends. Pat was a member of PEO, Chapter D and a lifetime member of the Purdue Alumni Association.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Mary M. and Reverend Philip Emmanuel Auer, and her brother, Reverend John W. Auer. She is survived by her husband, John Edward Stump; daughter Karen (Stump) Redman of Fort Wayne, son James Edward Stump of Wabash; niece Miriam (Auer) Zella of Kissimmee FL; four grandchildren: Bryan Redman, Amy Lathers, Cami Wulfeck, and Chase Stump, and six great-grandchildren: Sabrina, Elliot, Nadia, Oliver, Logan and Reagan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Westminster Foundation, 2741 N Salisbury Street, West Lafayette, IN 47906. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Westminster Village staff, nurses, and caregivers for their support and care in the final days.
