Nancy L. Runnels passed away August 16, 2012 at Westminster Health Care in West Lafayette.
Nancy was born to Alberta and Leonard Wilcox on July 16, 1926, in Wichita, Kansas. She grew up and attended schools in Hutchinson, Kansas, and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1944. Nancy graduated from Kansas State University in 1948 with a degree in Business Administration. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at KSU.
Nancy married Dr. Lewis J. Runnels on May 2, 1948 in her family home in Hutchinson, Kansas. The couple?s first home was in Garrett, Indiana, where Dr. Runnels began his veterinary practice. Later they lived in Darlington, Indiana where Dr. Runnels continued his practice. She and Lewis made their home in West Lafayette in 1969 when he joined the faculty as a Professor in the Large Animal Clinic at Purdue University.
Nancy was a business associate in the veterinary practices and was also a superb homemaker and mother. She was a member of Chapter CI of PEO Sisterhood. She enjoyed playing tennis with friends and playing bridge in several social bridge clubs. She also served on the House Board of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority at Purdue University.
She is survived by her husband and two sons, Bruce R. Runnels and his wife Katherine of Fort Collins, Colorado; Dr. Paul L. Runnels and his wife Janice of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and a granddaughter, Hannah Lee Runnels, of Fort Collins.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to The Federated Church Endowment Fund or Westminster Village Foundation.
A Visitation will be held at The Federated Church of West Lafayette, 2400 Sycamore Lane, on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 2:00 P.M., followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 P.M.
