Nancy B. Scheer, 88, of West Lafayette, IN, went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2026. She lived at West Lafayette Assisted Living. She made her final journey on Resurrection Sunday.
She was born in Camden, NJ, on February 20, 1938, to C. Lincoln Brown, Jr. and Virginia (Martin) Brown. She married Donald F. Scheer on August 15, 1959, in Merchantville, NJ. Don preceded her in death in 2014.
Nancy graduated from Merchantville High School in Merchantville, NJ, in 1956. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Douglass College, the women’s division of Rutgers University, in Brunswick, NJ, in 1960.
Don and Nancy moved from New Jersey to Florida to Indiana (where their three children were born) to Illinois and finally to Rhode Island as Don pursued a career in horticulture. Don and Nancy lived in Narragansett, RI, for 23 years, where they put down roots and raised their family. After Don’s retirement, they moved back to Indiana in 1994 to be near family.
Nancy had a sewing and alterations business from her home for several decades. She was a purchasing assistant at Worwag Coatings (formerly Egyptian Lacquer) in Lafayette for 14 years, retiring in 2008. She wrote and self-published Practical Low Fat Cooking in 1998.
She volunteered in organizing libraries at a church school in Rhode Island and at Friendship House in West Lafayette, where she lived for 10 years in her retirement. She loved to study the Bible and led a weekly ladies Bible study at Friendship House. In her later years, she sewed several dozen Raggedy Ann dolls for family and for children in foster care.
She was a member of Lafayette Pentecostal Church of God and a 20-year member of Apponaug Pentecostal Church in Warwick, RI.
Nancy’s focus in life was always family. She is survived by three children: Linda J. Stewart (husband: Greg) of West Lafayette, Eric F. Scheer (wife: Tricia) of Peace Dale, RI, and Gregory D. Scheer (wife: Jen) of Grand Rapids, MI. She has eight grandchildren: Rachel, Heidi, Mary, Jason, Quillan, Kindra, Simon, and Theo, and six great-grandchildren. Her youngest great-grandchild was born into this world a few hours after Nancy left it. Nancy is also survived by her brother, C. Lincoln Brown III of Ithaca, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband and by her brother, David B. Brown.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to an 11:00 a.m. service on Wednesday, April 15, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway, West Lafayette, with Pastor Andy Byrn officiating. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
