Nancy Cordes, 90, of Lafayette, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Indiana University Arnett Hospital, Lafayette. She was born one of eight children, in Shelbyville to the late Rollin Olin and Edna Isabel (Fell) Hay. Nancy Cordes, 90, of Lafayette, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Indiana University Arnett Hospital, Lafayette.
She was born one of eight children, in Shelbyville to the late Rollin Olin and Edna Isabel (Fell) Hay. She grew up in Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School before continuing her education at Indiana University. In 1957, Nancy married Albert “Bud” Cordes in Lafayette, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and devotion to family.
Throughout her life, Nancy had several different careers including National Homes, TSC Central Office, and Landis & Gyr.
Nancy was known for her strong family ties and the warmth she shared with those around her. Growing up surrounded by seven siblings helped shape her deep appreciation for family and community.
She enjoyed playing cards, reading books, researching genealogy, and, most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her children, Craig Cordes, Julie (Eric) McNelly, Garth (Cyndi) Cordes, and Carol (Ray) Hewitt; and her sister, Barbara Sondergrath.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Cordes; her 6 siblings, Gwen (Glenn) Ladd, Ronnie Hay, Jack (Dottie) Hay, Rose (Gene) Edmonds, Nycha (Wayne) Senesac, and Dan (Carol) Hay; and daughter-in-law, Pam Cordes.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until time of service at 4:00 pm, Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Soller-Baker, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Boulevard, Lafayette, Indiana 47909.
Nancy’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family will be cherished by all who knew her.
