Myra V. Wall

Myra V. Wall, 94, of Lafayette, died at 2:35 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Central.
She was born Feb. 17, 1916, in Greene County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ruth Stuart Peavey. She graduated from Midland (Ind.) High School, in 1934 and received a degree in education from Indiana State University in 1939. She received her master?s degree from Purdue University in 1957.
On April 29,1944, she married Dwight “Art” Wall Jr., in Lafayette, and he survives.
Mrs. Wall taught at Vinton School in Lafayette, for 25 years, retiring in 1978. She had also taught at Crouch and Washington schools in Lafayette and in Monon and Madison.
During World War II she worked for Alcoa and at Kingsbury Ordnance Plant.
Mrs. Wall was a member of Congress Street United Methodist Church, Indiana Retired Teachers Assocation and Tippecanoe-Benton County Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed playing the piano, music, reading traveling in the United States and working with children.
Surviving with her husband are a daughter, Mary V. Smith (husband: Jeff) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and a son, Donald A. Wall (wife: Cheryn) of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Patti Schwartz, Larry and Kathy Smith, Sarah Lehocky and Michael Wall; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Payton and Jake Lehocky; and a nephew, Larry Neal (wife: Marge), Williamsburg, Va.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to a 11 a.m. service Friday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., the Rev. Roger Bear officiating. Graveside service will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Clay City, IN at 3 p.m. Friday. Preceded in death by sister Viola Neal. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Congress Street United Methodist Church.

My condolences to all Myra&s (Mrs. Wall, to me) family. The world has been a better place that she was part of it for so many years; and, heaven will be a better place for her being there for eternity

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Myra. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Please take care of yourself.

Mrs. Wall was one of my favorite teachers at Vinton. Such a kind and patient lady. She touched so many lives. My thoughts and prayers for her family. LW

It is always a sad time when we lose our loved ones, and I just wanted to share my prayer and wishes for God to bless you with His heart-felt presence and love. It looks like your mom has had a long and wonderful life--something to be thankful for. I am the last one standing from the family I grew up with, so I have been there several times. I know that my faith has strengthened and sustained me in every case.

You may remember me from class of &64 at Jeff. I still try to stay in contact with many.

We are all very sad to hear about Myra&s passing. She was a wonderful lady. It was such a joy to see her (and you too, Mr. Wall) on our daily deliveries. I feel very honored to have known such a caring and accomplished woman.

Mrs. Wall was my 4th grade teacher at Vinton Elementary. I am 56 years old and have never forgotten the teacher that left such an impact in my life. She definitely cared for all the children she taught. She will be greatly missed.

Please accept my condolences on the passing of your mother. I had her for Fourth Grade (1955?) at Vinton, a year that brought me many lifelong friends. I remember Mrs. Wall--she will always be Mrs. Wall to me-- as a firm, gentle presence. She was a reliable pillar in those grade school years. I may be mistaken--my memory is not total--but I credit her with reading aloud to the class ""The Bears of Blue River"", a favorite of mine.

Dear Uncle Art, Mary Virginia, Donnie, and grandchildren, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Aunt Myra was a very kind, loving person and will always have a special place in my heart. Although I have not visited with Art and Myra for several years, I have very fond memories of being with them during my childhood and into my adult years. I know that my parents, Betty and Charles, also dearly loved Myra and Art.

Myra is now in a beautiful place in which there is no pain or sorrow, only God&s love.

I just wanted to express my condolences on the passing of Mrs. Wall. I have fond memories of her as my 4th grade teacher at Vinton (1965?). My family enjoyed being neighbors in the Hedgewood addition to Mr. & Mrs. Wall. I always thought she was a lovely lady. Sincerely, Vickie Bevan
