Michael Lavar Matthews Jr.

Michael Lavar Matthews Jr “Skooly”, 18, of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015. He was born January 12, 1997, in Gary, to Yolanda Jackson and the late Michael Lavar Matthews Sr. He was currently a student at Lafayette Adult Resource Academy, and previously attended McCutcheon High School, and Lafayette Jefferson High School. Michael was a sorter at Mail Inc., but also worked at CFA staffing, TJ Maxx, Mc Donald's and Monster Golf. He enjoyed playing basketball, football, running track, rapping and designing music videos. He is preceded in death by his father, Michael Lavar Matthews Sr, Great Grandmother Georgia Manning, Great Grandfather Edward Simmons, Great Grandfather McCalvin Wise and Great Grandfather Horace Matthews Sr. Surviving are his mother, Yolanda Jackson of Lafayette, son, Michael Lavar Matthews III of Chicago, girlfriend, Alexis Wade of Chicago, sisters, Alicia Hunter, Aliyia Kind, Mi'Chaelonda Matthews, and brothers Malik Matthews, Jay'Vion Brown all of Lafayette, and Antonio Brown Jr. Also surviving are his grandparents, Yolanda(Tracey) Wise, and Edward Kind both of Lafayette, Dorothy Moore of Gary, and Horace Matthews of Indianapolis. Maternal Great Grandparents Emma Wise of Gary, Alice Taylor of Chicago, Van Surney of Gary. Paternal Great Grandparents Ben(Lizzie)Hardiman of Michigan, and Ola Matthews of Indianapolis. Uncles Edward(Jamessia)Kind of Marietta,Georgia, McCalvin(Britney)Frazier, Donte' Frazier, Jermaine Frazier, all of Lafayette, Zion Matthews of Gary, and Tracey Fudge of Chicago. Aunts Briana Kind of Gary, LaSandra Roberts, Nicole(Nicolete)Sledge and Zaire Matthews. God mother's LaTisha Miles and Tameka Wade and a host of other loving family members and precious friends.
