Melonie Sue Harris-Ullrich went to see her Lord on Sunday, June 21, 2015. She was born February 25, 1968, in Lafayette, Indiana, at Home Hospital, to the union of Kenneth E. Harris Sr. and Betty V. (Prater) Harris of Williamsport, Indiana. Melonie graduated from Benton Central High School, in 1986, where she participated in intramural volleyball and played the clarinet in the marching band. After graduation, she attended Purdue University and met her future husband, Gerry B. Ulrich Jr. After five years of courtship, the two exchanged wedding vows on June 19, 1992. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Mikayla Ullrich on May 13, 1994. Melonie was also an amateur fiction writer of Fan Fiction. Not only did she enjoy writing about the characters of the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but she loved to write in general, and always talked about one day writing a book about her own life. During her life, Melonie held several positions, but none was dearer to her heart than her last position of 10 years at Sonshine daycare where she provided loving care to children between the ages of 6 weeks to 6 years old. Throughout her life, Melonie possessed a deep belief in love of family and friends. She was a driving force in keeping everyone in contact with each other and was always there when needed. Which in no small part explains why she was loved, appreciated, admired and a strength to those that knew her. Melonie leaves to celebrate her memory, her husband, Gerry B. Ullrich Jr.; Daughter, Mikayla Ullrich; Father, Kenneth E. Harris Sr.; Mother, Betty V. (Prater) Harris; her three sisters, Carol Otto, Sherry Downing, Betty (and Wesley) Wilborn; and one brother, Kenneth E. (and Jessica) Harris Jr., and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial visitation will be Tuesday July 7,2015 from 5-7PM Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel followed by service at 7PM.
