Maurice Ferriter, 59
Maurice J. Ferriter, Lakeland, MI, age 59, died August 15, 2011, at his home in Lakeland, Michigan, following a lengthy illness. Maurie was born June 7, 1952, in Lafayette, Indiana, the son of Maurice J. and Rosemary (Schilling) Ferriter.
Maurie graduated from Central Catholic High School in Lafayette, Indiana, in 1970 and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in 1982. He was an avid fisherman, supporter of Central Catholic High School and Purdue University.
His career began in Woven Wire manufacturing until 1982 when his lifelong battle with kidney disease resulted in kidney failure. He devoted the rest of his life to educating patients, doctors and the public on kidney disease, organ donation and dialysis.
Maurie was able to channel his passion through The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan where he worked as Director of Services since 1986.
Maurie?s life affected innumerable people. His passion for life and living were an inspiration to all that knew him. Countless lives were improved through his work. He taught many how to live and eventually how to die. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his son Kevin Ferriter of Rockford, IL; his mother Rosemary Ferriter of W. Lafayette, IN? brothers, Tom (Kris) Ferriter of Knoxville, TN, Pierce Ferriter of Dayton OH; nieces, Erin and Tara; and nephew Tim. His father Maurice Joseph and brother Tim Ferriter preceded him in death. The family will gather with friends on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with a memorial visitation from 1-3 p.m. with a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday. Inurnment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
