Mary T. Matheson, 63
Mary T. Matheson, 63, of Lafayette, Ind., died 10:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011, at her residence.
She was born May 23, 1947, in South Bend to the late John and Helen Wisniewski Bonczynski. She graduated from Washington High School in South Bend and has an Associate?s Degree from Purdue University in industrial supervision.
On June 23, 1973, she married Melvin Matheson in South Bend. He survives. Mrs. Matheson worked for the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing as Coordinator of Administrative Services since 1983.
Mrs. Matheson enjoyed crocheting, crosstitch, scrapbooking, and time spent with her family. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She was a member of the Matrix Pregnancy Resource Center, where she was a volunteer. She was a former board member and president of the board and was chair of Sweet Celebrations Silent Auction. She was a former chair of the Luminaria Committee and a former team captain for Relay for Life. She also volunteered at Caregiver Companion. Mrs. Matheson was also a fellow at St. Joseph College.
Surviving are her husband, Melvin L. Matheson, Lafayette; two daughters, Monica Perry (husband: Carl), Indianapolis, and Michelle Tatum (husband: Curtis), Savage, MD; a son David Matheson (wife: Elizabeth), Lafayette; and a brother, Joseph Bonczynski (wife: Diane), Dowagiac, Mich.
Also surviving is a granddaughter, Sophia Nicole Perry.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with rosary at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 22 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Fr. Leroy Kinnaman, Fr. Daniel Gartland and Deacon John Jezierski officiating. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery. Those wishing may contribute to the Matrix Pregnancy Resource Center, the American Cancer Society, or to St. Elizabeth School of Nursing Scholarship Fund.

I am very sorry to hear that Mary passed away. I enjoyed working with her on various furniture projects over the years for the St. E School of Nursing. She was a very kind lady who has done a lot for the community, and she will be greatly missed.

We were so sorry to hear the news about Mary. She had a long battle but fought it with dignity and grace. At least she is at peace and with God.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all you at this difficult time. I wish we could be there with you.

My greatest memory of Ms. Mary is her smile and her demeanor. No matter what kind of a day she or John may be having at school she always greeted you with a smile and a hug. She will be greatly missed by me but I know she was loved. Rest In Peace Ms. Mary

I knew Mary from work, I worked on the 4th floor of the School of Nursing for EMS education. I had to contact Mary during the year for rooms for my students for lectures and she was very pleasant and accommadating to me and my students. She will be missed the School of Nursing will not be able to find a person like Mary. I would see her from time to time in the hallway helping a student. She was always available when we needed her. A women of her statue she always called me mister King. She will be missed and my prayers go out to the her family. Rest well Mary.

We extend our sympathy to all of you in your loss of Mary. We first met her through Pre-Cana at St. Lawrence. She and Mel were great examples of Christian marriage, both to the engaged couples, and to us on the team as well. By sharing their own personal story, they gave a wonderful gift to us all. I&ll always remember the story of their ""ice cream dates.""

To Mary&s family:
I do hope to get to the visitation, but may not make it due to medical appointment.
Mary meant a great deal to me while I worked at St. E&s from 1996-2008. We becae good friends and were in a prayer group together for part of that time. She taught me about love and overcoming, and a everythin I know about Catholicism.
I&m one of the ""lucky"" ones who has survived breast cancer. I have been praying for Mary since her first diagnosis. She fought the good fight and I&m sure her Heavenly Father has welcomed her home with open arms, saying ""Well done my good and faithful servant."" She had a wonderful balance of faith and works. She was a true believer.
i pray that your life journeys continue and that you stay strong in your faith and feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit daily.
